Celebrate Safely: Enjoy Holidays Responsibly

The holidays bring family, friends, and plenty of reasons to celebrate. They shouldn’t end with a preventable tragedy on the road. At Brotman Nusbaum Ibrahim & Adelman, we stand up for people hurt by someone else’s negligence—never insurance companies—and we want your season to stay joyful, safe, and claim-free.

Plan a Safe Ride Before the First Sip

A decision you make before the party is the one that protects everyone.

  • Lock in a rideshare or taxi ahead of time (set a calendar reminder so you actually book it).

  • Make a real designated driver plan (not “we’ll see later”).

  • If plans change, stop drinking early enough to switch roles—or stick with a ride service.

Look Out for Friends and Loved Ones

Holiday kindness can be lifesaving.

  • Do quick check-ins before people head out: “You good for a safe ride?”

  • Share rides, split fares, or call a taxi for someone who needs it.

  • If a guest isn’t safe to drive, help them arrange a ride or a spot to stay.

Pace Yourself and Know Your Limits

Enjoy the celebration without losing track.

  • Alternate drinks with water or a festive mocktail.

  • Eat before and during the event.

  • Use a personal rule (e.g., “two drinks max, then switch”) and stick to it.

Hosting? Set the Tone for Safety

Hosts can make safe choices easy and normal.

  • Stock appealing nonalcoholic options and plenty of water.

  • Put a rideshare code or taxi number on the fridge or group chat.

  • Close the bar early and serve dessert/coffee toward the end.

  • If a guest shouldn’t drive, support them—offer a couch, call a ride, or find a sober driver.

If a Crash Happens: What to Do Next

If you or someone you love is involved in a collision:

  1. Call 911 and get medical attention right away.

  2. Document the scene: photos/video of vehicles, roadway, conditions, and visible injuries.

  3. Exchange info with the other driver(s) and witnesses.

  4. Avoid recorded statements to any insurer until you’ve spoken with an attorney.

  5. Keep records: medical visits, repair estimates, time missed from work.

BNI&A helps injured people navigate medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering claims, and insurance company tactics. Your consultation with an attorney is confidential, and in injury cases, there’s no fee unless you recover.

The Bottom Line

The best gift you can give (and get) is everyone home safe. Plan ahead, look out for each other, and make responsible choices. And if someone else’s negligence turns your holiday upside down, we’re here to help you put the pieces back together.
